AN OPEN LETTER TO AUSTRALIA

SAFETY. EVIDENCE.
FAIRNESS FOR EVERYONE.

To Members of Parliament, justice leaders, legal professionals, community organisations and every Australian who believes that children and families deserve a fair process.

11 AUGUST 2026 · AUSTRALIA

Evidence before judgment.

We ask you to support a simple but important principle: serious allegations must be taken seriously, genuine victims must be safe to report, children’s safety and wellbeing must come first—and every decision that changes a person’s liberty, family life or future must be reached through a fair, independent and evidence-based process.

These principles are not in conflict. Protection without careful examination can produce unjust outcomes. Procedure without urgency can leave genuine victims and children exposed to risk. A credible justice system must be capable of doing both: responding to danger and testing the facts fairly.

We ask for timely, properly informed decisions.

Delay can deepen harm. Families may lose contact, financial stability and confidence in institutions while essential questions remain unresolved. Relevant records, independent information and lawful disclosure should be obtained early enough to guide safe interim decisions and reliable final outcomes.

We ask for meaningful access to justice.

A person’s ability to be heard should not depend entirely on wealth. Essential legal representation, mediation, supervised contact services and appropriate expert assistance can determine whether the system receives a clear and complete picture. Australia should keep examining practical ways to make these services accessible to people who cannot afford them.

We ask for balanced accountability.

A report that cannot ultimately be proven is not automatically a deliberate lie. Good-faith reports must remain safe to make. At the same time, where deliberate fabrication, concealment or misuse is established through proper evidence, the system should have clear and proportionate ways to respond.

We ask for children to remain at the centre.

Children are not evidence, bargaining tools or prizes. Their safety, stability, relationships and developmental needs deserve careful, individual attention. Decisions should not be driven by gender stereotypes or predetermined outcomes, but by the child’s circumstances and the evidence available.

We ask Parliament and the community to listen.

Justice Before Judgment maintains separate reform requests for Commonwealth family law and Western Australian criminal justice processes. The public register on this website is not an official parliamentary petition. It demonstrates that people are prepared to stand publicly for fair process while the formal petition pathways are prepared.

Protect genuine victims. Protect children. Examine the evidence. Hear every person. Decide fairly.

We invite Australians and international supporters to read the campaign, examine its safeguards and add their support. We also invite journalists, community organisations, advocates, legal professionals and responsible founding partners to engage with the campaign on its stated principles.
